Kvarter Trudhem in Uppsala

In the Trudhem district – one of the most attractive residential areas in central Uppsala – lies the property at Kvarngärdet 25:4, directly at the intersection of Storgatan and S:t Olofsgatan. The area borders the historic Tingshuset (former courthouse) from the 1950s, which has been transferred to the City of Uppsala since the district court moved to more modern premises.

Project scope

The new Kvarter Trudhem project was designed by Johan Celsing Arkitektkontor AB, a Stockholm-based architecture firm specializing in residential, cultural, and institutional buildings. The two new residential buildings are designed using a mixed construction method of cross-laminated timber (CLT) and concrete, and feature a brick facade – a deliberate reference to the brick buildings in the immediate vicinity, including the historic Tingshuset.

The new apartments feature roof terraces and are designed to meet energy efficiency standard B. The project thus combines high-quality, resource-efficient timber construction with the urban planning requirements of a listed building complex.
